What is a doula?
'Doula'
is the Greek word meaning 'woman's servant.' A doula stays with the
laboring mother continuously, offering support and relaxation
techniques; suggests different positions and exercises to promote a
healthy labor.
A
doula is not a midwife, not a nurse; a doula 100% employed by the
laboring mother and does everything in her power to give her a joyful,
memorable, and comfortable birth experience.
It
is part of the doula's job to help you remember your birth experience
by recording the milestones of your labor both photographically and as a
timeline.
A
doula will not interfere with the role of the father. Dads are
encourages to be as involved as they feel comfortable, and they benefit
from doula support as well.
A
doula can help you stay focused when labor begins to get overwhelming.
Labor is manageable, but much easier to do so with someone who knows
how to navigate the ever-changing journey.
A
doula recognizes that this is an experience that the mother will
remember forever, and will do all she can to help her meet her birth
goals.
